Fuck Yeah Skinny Chicks

About This Blog

FYSC was founded with the following goals in mind, in order of importance:

  1. Help skinny chicks raise their self esteem through articles, discussions, and photos of normal, healthy skinny chicks presented in a natural way (ie: no Photoshopped models.)
  2. Help put an end to skinny-bashing; make people realize that comments like “eat a sandwich” are hurtful and should be stopped.
  3. Reach out to other body acceptance bloggers and help each other promote our goals.

Why is FYSC even necessary, you may ask? Don’t skinny chicks already have the media to help them feel better about themselves?

The answer is yes and no. Yeah, we’re lucky that the media promotes skinniness. But that’s where it ends! The media makes us feel inadequate in some areas too. There aren’t that many small-boobed celebrities of different ethnicities out there. The media ideal is closer to a slender but big-boobed blonde woman which is of course a very small scope of beauty. On the other hand, the media hates runway models! They’re always anorexic and ugly and unattractive. For those of us naturally built like runway models and are far from anorexic, it’s hard to hear people put down that body type all the type as the result of a backlash to the fashion industry.

If you’re reading this, I’m sure you know as well as anyone, that even the most gorgeous teenager is going to find a fault with her body, whether she’s fat or skinny or in between. To a teenager, the grass is always greener on the other side. I would know! I was a scrawny middle schooler and I hated my body as much as the next person. People told me that I could be a model and that I was lucky to be so skinny, which while well-intentioned, did nothing for my self esteem and did nothing to combat all the rude comments about how I must be anorexic! On top of that, I was convinced that it was my thinness and lack of boobs or hips that made me unattractive to guys, which in addition to other issues I had at the time, made me quite depressed. Whether or not the media promotes skinniness is irrelevant when you’ve convinced yourself that you’re ugly.

I’m glad I’ve (mostly) gotten over that, but so many girls haven’t! It’s those girls that I really want to help. I could have used a blog like this when I was in middle and high school. I’ve received some negative comments about this blog from people who don’t believe that skinny people have body image problems too, but I’ve gotten comments from skinny chicks who have been helped by my blog and fat acceptance bloggers who also like what I’m doing, which keeps me going.

This is absolutely not a “thinspo” blog. I don’t condone anorexia at all. You are beautiful when you are the weight you are naturally meant to be, while following a healthy lifestyle. If you’re meant to be super skinny, cool, but if you’re meant to be fat, that’s also cool. Health is beautiful.

By the way, the primary content of this blog will be articles, discussions, and user submitted photos. To see more photos, please visit our Tumblr counterpart.

Okay I’m done. Get out there and be gorgeous! And write to me! I love feedback.

Holy shit! This is a great blog, for soooo many reasons. I’m very much in favor of women – regardless of body type, class, race, what have you – and have been troubled to notice many in my generation attempting to push their ideals of ‘beauty’ on anyone around them. Not only is that terrible because it’s holding someone else to your standards, but when it spreads around, I can only imagine the mental turmoil folks have to go through. There seem to be a lot of FA blogs around, which is fine – but this is the first model I’ve seen for svelte gals that’s pro-woman, anti-ana, and tackles the issues with humor and compassion. Hellz yeah! Keep on rockin’!

You’re welcome! Hey, and no rush (tho of course any updates r’ good! ^_-) – when you’ve found some good news, whether it’s inspiring stuff or the media’s later attempt to create a ‘standardized’ and unachievable woman, I’ll be here to read it. If there’s anything I can do to help besides moral support and cheering on, lemme know, haha!
